A standard rate? A FEDERAL standard rate? States wouldn't allow that anyway. I agree that none of my suggestions are realistic. Merit pay just isn't ever going to work.

I can't imagine any union rejecting merit pay based on "someone might feel bad". I totally can see how the union would want to know exactly how a school baord would rate a teacher FOR merit pay? And reject it if it wasn't acceptable. Test scores would NOT be the way to do it. I HATED my teachers...

Good teachers is NOT sexy news so we never hear about them. "Teachers are bad and greedy" - Front Page "Excellent teacher takes students to new levels" - page 6 but will be eliminated if the local high school football team wins tomorrow. Good teachers far outweigh bad ones.

Good. So what's the solution? Is there a solution? IS the American education system 'broken'? Lots of talk this week about education and the responsibility the teachers have to get our kids to make the grade. Aren't parents suppose to make that happen or at least be accounted for in the...

ought to become teachers, right? I think so. What with all the talk lately about how the American school systems are failing I would think that we ought to encouage our best and brightest to become teachers.

    Drug Testing for Welfare recipents

The problem I see with the drug testing is that even if just ONE welfare recipeint tests positive there'll be NO END to the critic's rhetoric.

    Drug Testing for Welfare recipents

Since this thread is MY CREATION; LOL, I hereby include any and all "free money" programs to be scrutinized for drug testing. No more talk needed for that. Also, it would be unfair to the rich businessmen, who recieve free gov't money, to be under any scrutiny. (heh, I just didn't want to appear...

    Drug Testing for Welfare recipents

So, on one hand there is an opinion that drug testing for welfare recipients is not a good idea but rather sifting out the fraud in other areas would be more productive; what about both? As for the random drug testing I had a tiny blip of an idea (smacks of the whole immigration thing really)...

    Drug Testing for Welfare recipents

No one thought of it, I was just just asking a question because I keep thinking of what some conservatives are calling wasteful spending; welfare seems to fit that bill. Also, the drug testing could be syphoned from the welfare recipent's money; they test positive they pay for it, if they don't...
