Patti starts to correct a pile of 163 multiple choice tests at a rate of four per minute. Five minutes later, Sandy joins her, and corrects tests at a rate of seven per minute. When they are finished correcting the entire pile, how many papers has each corrected?

Answer:
P + S = 163
P = 4M
S = 7(M-5)
4(M) + 7(M-5) = 163
11M = 198
M = 18
Patti corrected for 18 minutes, grading 72 tests. Sandy corrected for 13 minutes, grading 91 tests.

Comments:

A lot of equations, rokapoke. Here's how I got it. Patti grades 4 per minute for 5 minutes, which is 20 tests. Together, they grade the remaining 143 tests at 11 per minute. 143/11 = 13 more minutes. Same basic idea, but breaking it up into 2 smaller math problems. Clearly the same end result, though :D

April 19th - Sit for a Spell
All but one of these words is spelled incorrectly. For each incorrect word, write down the single letter that is missing, extra or wrong. Then read those letters in order. They'll spell out what you might say about spelling a tough-to-spell word.

LIASON
ACCOMODATE
SUPERSEDE
INNOCULATE
GENEOLOGY
BATALION
MISPELLED
CAMOFLAGE
PERSERVERE
ARGUEMENT

Chose the correct letter from each clue in the rhyme below. When put in order, the four letters will spell the answer to the riddle.

My first is in red but not in blue.
My second in out but not in true.
My third in bats but not in burr.
My last in eat but not in stir.
Put them together and you will tell
My whole: a flower sweet to smell.

Rokapoke's the only person who really responded to this every day. He and his wife just had their first baby last Friday, so I'm not sure when he'll be back.

I like to think that other people check this out, but maybe just don't respond.

I can only do the "easy ones", like I could have figured out the April 20th one if I remembered to come back to it.

I can't get 2 and 4 from today's puzzle without thinking harder :)

I do look at these on a daily basis, but don't respond to each one. Your efforts are not going unappreciated!

Yeah, I guess rokapoke is the most consistent, but it always seemed to me that at least 2, sometimes 3 people chimed in each day. Maybe those are just the days that stand out more :D
