Warhammer Quest: Death Below Karak Azgal

Oversoul

The Tentacled One
Dorgath tries to get everyone to join in, but there doesn't seem to be enough room. Kelgar and Arcttus join in, but Kelgar trips, cursing the stupid old chain, over the stone chest. He knocks the chest over as he falls, triggering the chest's poison gas trap.

-Throg takes 5 damage from the gas.
-Dorgath takes 1 damage from the gas.
-Kelgar scrambles away and escapes the trap.
-Carrow holds his breath, taking no damage from the trap.
-Arcttus takes 2 damage from the gas.
-Anton holds his breath, taking no damage from the trap.
-Avorus takes 3 damage from the gas.

"Valaya protect us!" Dorgath swears as he moves out of the range of the gas. He waits until it dissipates before checking out the contents of the chest.

Arcttus exlcaims, "Ah, sorry. That was my fault. Hard to pull on the chain with that thing in the way and I guess I got in the way too."

The contents of the chest are...

-A sword.
-A black helmet.
-An orange, crystalline amulet.
-A strange-looking cloak.
-A scroll.
-A red bag.
-An ornate dagger.
-A small bundle wrapped in old rag.

Throg will check to see if the helmet is better than the one he currently has. Then he'll look inside the red bag and unwrap the bundle.

The black helmet seems to have no visor, which would make it decidedly inferior, except maybe for blind adventurers. However, when Throg dons the helmet, he find that he can see without obstruction. In fact, it's even better than that: the helmet seems to let him see as though he was in full daylight.

-Throg identifies a Helmet of Farseeing: +1 toughness against blows to the head. The wearer can see and move in the dark. Worth 800 gold.

Throg looks inside the red bag.

-Throg identifies 200 gold.

Throg unwraps the rag to reveal a black rock.

-Throg thinks the black rock looks like coal. It doesn't seem to do anything special, but it does seem to have an odd texture...

"Sweet! No more lantern. TS for the rest of you guys, though."

Throg will don the new helmet and give his old helmet and lantern to one of the humans. Then he'll dual wield his AoMS and Sword of Defiance.

"Hey, look, there's 100 gold in this bag."

Throg will give 25 gold to each of his fellow adventurers. "Sorry, humans, you don't get in on it."

"I found a rock."

Throg will put the rock back in the chest.

Dorgath attempts to identify the remaining items and passes them to Kelgar and Carrow to try if he cannot.

The Tentacled One
Throg may not want to permanently give up his warhelm, since he won't be able to wear the a magic helm once is higher in level (but he may or may not get a helm that is a Chaos artefact). I didn't think about the possibility of having one of the rescued prisoners carry the lantern, but it does make sense. For Throg to carry a Sword of Defiance in his off-hand, he could also have Dorgath or Kelgar carry the lantern, I guess.

Arcttus hesitantly accepts Throg's warhelm and lantern. Dorgath examines the remaining items from the chest, but appears to have trouble identifying them. Kelgar helps out while Carrow stands guard...

-Dorgath identifies a Sword of Might. +1 Strength. Worth 150 gold.
-Dorgath cannot identify the crystal.
-Dorgath identifies an Elf Cloak. May ignore 1 damage from each blow that hits the wearer. Each time it absorbs damage, it rips and is destroyed on a D6 roll of 1. Worth 50 gold.
-Dorgath identifies a jeweled ornamental dagger. Useless in combat. Worth 100 gold.
-Kelgar identifies an Amulet of Fury. Contains a single use of the Invulnerability spell. Disintegrates after use. Worth 200 gold.
-Kelgar corrects Dorgath's cloak identification. Kelgar identifies a Cloak of Invisibility. The wearer may become invisibly once per adventure. Worth 200 gold. Carrow shakes his head at Dorgath's ignorance of his people. Of course it wasn't an Elf Cloak. Silly dwarf.
-Kelgar examines the dagger and points something out...

Dorgath decides that the black rock is definitely not coal. It does look similar to coal, but it's not dense enough and it seems to be too hard to be coal, in addition to the odd texture. Kelgar thinks it is not magical, but he isn't sure.

A tiny jewel in the pommel of the ornamental dagger contains what appears to be an image of a raging dwarf. He doesn't seem to notice your presence, but he is very upset about something. Wait a minute, you recognize him. He looks just like the stone warrior you saw in the middle of that room earlier...

"Good stuff! Thanks Kelgar, that's why you magic-types are here :) I'll take the Amulet of Fury if no one minds, we can store everything we're not using. This dagger looks interesting, perhaps it's magical? Or part of some magic spell? If we're done here, let's go back to the dwarf statue room and see what can be done there..."

I keep wanting to get back to this, but school is being dumb. I've got finals soon. I was going to make a new map, since it had been a while. I might do that tonight. For now, I will note that there is no route known to Dorgath by which he can lead the party back to the room with the stone Grimcrag Grunnson. The cave-in would block you from getting there the way you did earlier.

"Dorgath, may i see that crytal you have found. I would like to see if it has any importance to our quest.?"

New map for this deep, this time with a hastily made legend...
thepitofdarkness05.png

1. Corridor: magical loop trap
2. Corridor: magically locked door leading north
3. Stone tableau room: Stone Grimcrag Grunnson, stone goblins
4. Magic circle room: cave-in
5. Corner: found 3 prisoners
6. Well chamber: slime pit, stone chest (emptied), well with large chain

Sorry if this has already been asked: is there any possibility that we can clear the cave-in and move back to corridor #2?

Sorry if this has already been asked: do we have any pickaxes?

Assuming the answer is no, Throg will search for clues that might lead to a way out, like that thing in the bottom-right corner that looks like it could be a trapdoor.
