The only problem was if I ever pressed the "E" key, it would get stuck, so I'd be typing up someeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee homeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeework and it would eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeend up looking likeeeeeeeeeeeeee this.
Haha, that happened. Well, kind of. Shortly after I spilled water on the keyboard, I was pretty sure that "W" and "F" weren't working, so I shut it down and tried to dry the keyboard out. But then I couldn't get the computer working again because the keyboard was messing with it, and I couldn't just unplug the keyboard because it's a laptop. Eventually, I was able to open up safe mode and get an on-screen keyboard to type in my password. Then I opened up a Notepad document and attempted to type the alphabet in order to see which keys worked, but I was constantly interrupted by "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..."
I couldn't get the keyboard to stop thinking that it was rapidly typing the "E" key. So I messed around with the keyboard settings until I managed to get rid of the driver for the keyboard. Problem solved. Well, the whole lack of a keyboard problem is still unsolved (I thought I might have had a USB keyboard, but I don't). But at least now I can get to my files to back them up without being bombarded with phantom "E" keystrokes.
Never again have I ever allowed any beverage to share desk space with an electronic device that I value.
Well, that certainly is a verb, although not the one that I would use in this case. I bought that computer in December of 2010, and since purchasing it, it's had its hard drive, memory, and motherboard replaced under warranty. Then last year, it kept overheating and I had to get a fan replaced. This year, I started getting an entire column of pixels right in the middle of the display going red, which I was able to mitigate by applying pressure to the bottom part of the frame around the screen, up to the point where I wasn't paying attention and applied too much pressure to the wrong spot, cracking the screen. So I attached an external monitor. Then the overheating problem came back (not as bad as before, but it's definitely there). And now I've ruined my keyboard. Rather than saying I "value" it, I'll say that I have an intense desire to scrap it for parts just as soon as I have another computer to replace it, which would be happening right this minute if I weren't broke.
