Throg blasts the last plaguebearer with lightning. As soon as the daemon falls, the floor of the pit rumbles and launches itself, along with all of you, up toward the ceiling. Rows of spikes project downward, and the floor below your feet rises up to meet them...
-Throg takes 4 damage.
-Revaethan avoids the spikes.
-Dorgath takes 4 damage.
-Kelgar avoids the spikes.
-Tomas avoids the spikes.
-Jekaena takes 6 damage.
-Ty avoids the spikes.
-Carrow takes 1 damage.
The air around you seems to shimmer and becomes distorted. When the effect fades, you see ghostly runes wrapping themselves around you. Standing at the back of the room is a hulking, disfigured man wearing a robe lined with magical symbols. This must be Utronicus. But to get to him, you'll have to do something about the beasts of Nurgle that stand in the way...
Tomas and Throg* discern the nature of the spell that Utronicus has prepared. Until Utronicus is dead, his curse does damage over time to everyone in the party. Additionally, if anyone in the party is reduced to 0 Wounds, two things will happen.
-The fallen victim of the curse will be die and will be considered to be taking plague damage at the time of death, which means you permanently lose 1 Toughness.
-The corpse of the victim will spawn nurglings until the adventurer is resurrected or the body is completely destroyed. So kill him quickly and don't die.
*Throg has Arcane Knowledge and was able to comprehend Utronicus' spell. This was not planned. I didn't even initially plan on letting him use Bysshan's altar, but he successfully persuaded him and happened to roll on the tables such that he gained Arcane Knowledge and Mindless. Tzeentch being possibly the most mind/knowledge/magic-focused of the Chaos gods in the lore (although maybe Slaanesh fits too? I dunno), this feels like it should be deliberate. He used an altar of Tzeentch and the changes made to him both affected his mind. But I really did use the tables. Just thought it was interesting. It doesn't matter anyway: Tomas rolled perfectly on this one.
