And actually, I'd try and be consistent with a background (or bgcolor), header text, and link color if at all possible. Continuity is VERY important in a well designed website.

I'd drop the wood background - it's kinda distracting. Or, use tables to overlay it with a different background color, so the text doesn't look all weird. And personally, I'd change the link color to a red - #cf0000 maybe?

Woah! Time out there! 1. MOTL is barely involved. We're only really using it since Leshrac approached me with the idea way back when, and he wrote the (extensive) web based software for it. 2. He hasn't even announced it on his page! I highly doubt there will be many (if any) MOTLing...

Well, the only place it's announced is on the CPA page. And it's run how the other online tournaments are: through IRC with Apprentice. We're just going through MOTL, because Leshrac wrote the software to do it, and I don't feel like writing my own software or writing a pairing bot.
