What Would You Do with a Million Dollars?

You live in the Bay Area and you know housing costs are high but every so often you need a reminder.

The concentration of wealth used to be much lower in this country. In fact it basically fell every year from 1929 till the mid seventies and since then it has grown a lot larger. Wealth begets wealth and we've been living in a conservative era since the disintegration of the New Deal coalition in 1968. It has been made a lot easier for the rich to get richer and it is no coincidence in my mind that real wages have essentially stagnated since that time.

As for the million dollars, as I mentioned, I could spend practically all of it on a house at Bay Area prices. Probably pay off student debt, go on a trip around the world, end up in Monte Carlo (where they don't screw you with the double zero) and put whatever is left on Red.
