Vinz Clortho, Keymaster of Parallax Enchantments [EDH]

He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii, the Traveller came as a large, moving Torb! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex Supplicants, they chose a new form for him... That of a giant Sloar! Many Shubs and Zulls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day, I can tell you.

I used this deck for the final game of last night. One of my opponents was trying to use Shadowborn Apostles with Aetherflux Reservoir, and I was pretty sure he'd win before I could. Managed to slow him down with Dance of the Manse to get Parallax Wave and Parallax Tide. He tutored for a Thrumming Stone, but I was able to overload Cyclonic Rift, so he didn't have the mana to combo off. Keymaster milled me into a partial combo and Sage of Mysteries gave me that last nudge to get Starfield of Nyx into my graveyard. Opponents spent their next turns rebuilding from the Cyclonic Rift, which let me get to another turn. I had to eat 10 life loss from Ob Nixilis, Unshackled in order to tutor, but Dark Petition grabbed Replenish, which put a gamewinning combo onto the battlefield. I even drew Parallax Nexus in that same turn, so I showed them what I could do when I had all three Parallax enchantments on the table and all of my enchantments were also creatures.

Well, I tried this deck again last night. The LGS was closing, so we had to end the game in a draw with three players still alive. I suspect that I would have lost to the very strong Ob-Nixilis, Captive Kingpin deck that was the dominant force at the table throughout the game. But it was far from over. If I topdecked well and he topdecked poorly, then I could certainly have pulled off a win here. The other deck still at the table might have had some say on the matter too.

Won another game with this deck, but it was one that I should totally have lost. I didn't get the right topdecks and one of my opponents, after picking off the rest of the table, should have had me dead. He felt rushed by me (which I didn't actually realize until afterward) and sequenced his plays incorrectly, lacking the mana to punch through my Propaganda and Copy Enchantment (copying Propaganda). That bought me another turn, which was all I needed to use Seal of Removal on my commander and Lim-Dul's Vault to find Parallax Wave (I already had Opalescence and Parallax Tide).

So yeah, I feel kinda bad about that one. The player who should have won is a guy I used to play with pre-COVID, and I know he likes to push the power level a lot with his decks. I'd rather get pubstomped than angle-shoot someone, though. But if I'm going to play at this LGS, I probably need to bring some spicier decks. Might reserve more of my jank decks for the other LGS...

Played this deck once on Wednesday and once yesterday. The game on Wednesday ran a little long, but I protected myself from attacks with Propaganda and Sphere of Safety. l took my time and was able to set up a full combo with Opalescence and all three parallax enchantments.

The game yesterday saw me pitted against two superior opponents and one innocuous opponent. I had crap draws and died, but managed to kingmake the game just so that I could feel relevant (used Arcane Lighthouse and Cyclonic Rift to bounce the hexproof commander that was about to kill an opponent). Should I have? I don't know. But I did it.

On Wednesday, I won a game with this one in which One With the Multiverse let me set up Starfield of Nyx alongside all three Parallax enchantments. Then yesterday, I actually won a game without ever turning Parallax Wave into a creature! Crazy, I know. I'd used Propaganda and Ghostly Prison to make myself a difficult target. On the turn before I was going to try to use Dance of the Manse, my graveyard was exiled by Kaya's Guile. This took the wind out of my sails for a few turns, but I was still expensive to attack. After rebuilding, I managed to use Pure Reflection + Unnatural Selection to police the board, and Parallax Wave to temporarily shut down an indestructible creature. I ended up winning by having my opponents weaken each other, then swinging in for lethal commander damage over the course of three turns with my 7/7 flying commander.

Despite a slightly sluggish start, I was able to hold off some attacks while milling myself with Sage of Mysteries, then with Overlord of the Balemurk. I was able to cast my commander for X=3 on the following turn, then set up a huge Replenish on the turn after that. Although I didn't get an Opalescence effects, I was able to establish control of the board anyway, wiping out opposing creatures and drawing more cards. Opponents conceded instead of waiting to see the end.
