Tomorrow I am going to the Maryland Renaissance Fair as a part of my Dad's birthday present, and I understand that there are many other Renaissance Fairs in other states. Are any of you familiar with the renaissance fair?
For those who aren't familiar with them, people go to these fairs and pretend to be in about 1530 in England.

I prefer to LARP.

I understand that they're a GREAT place to pick up costuming at, though...

If you can, pick up a nice scarlett colored cape.

Tha'd look cool!

Ren fairs? In Maryland? Where/when? My wonderful girlfriend now resides in Maryland, and is an avid SCA-goer. For the record, the SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism. As TICM said, basically, it's a big party where everyone pretends to be from a time frame between the Roman era and the early Renissance. The only times I've been to them, I've borrowed a classic Musketeer outfit, and gone as that. They're VERY fun, with a lot of interesting gawking and shopping to do (dozens of stores in period, selling everything from rope to clothes to swords and crossbows). If you have anything that would pass as period clothing, see if you can find a local event to go to. :)

It's in Crownsville,MD every weekend until sometime in October.

I go at least once every year, and have friends that work there.

We're going this weekend (Saturday, 9/8) to the one in Maryland with a couple of friends. I've been to it before and it's all right, but not that quite exceptional if you've gone year after year. It's basically the same old, same old. I do like the "Steak on a Stick" though :D

I went to the Ren Fair last year ( didn't get too this yeah=r :( )

The funniest moment was when someone dressed like a Puritan told my Friend " May the Wrath of God find holiness in you " He was dressed as a monk :D. I on the other hand enjoyed walking around with a big turkey leg in my hand :D:D mmm yummy.
