The Tentacled One
Yesterday I'd been planning to run over to an LGS after work, but I was invited to a friend's house as a last-minute subsitution in a commander cube draft. I brought an old Magic Origins booster pack I found lying around as my tribute for the occasion and ended up walking away with two Wilds of Eldraine set boosters as my own prizes.

I don't post every Limited format deck I play, but this was technically my first real Commander draft. I started off looking at a potential Jarad deck, then upgraded to my old favorite, The Gitrog Monster. This deck was fun to play, let me explore some cards I hadn't ever gotten to use yet, and reminded me just how much I wanted to play a dredge-based deck in EDH.

I've elected to note this deck here at the CPA and to include it in my 2024 EDH spreadsheet as a revisited commander, but not to put it on Moxfield (for now).

We had eight players draft, with each player being allotted four packs of twenty cards. The draft system from Commander Legends was used here, but there were some special rules. Any commander that was one or two colors could be used with either Faceless One or The Prismatic Piper. All players started with one Commander Tower in their pools. I believe that there was also some rule that let mana rocks be used in any deck, regardless of color identity. We built sixty-card minimum decks and played two games starting at thirty life, with the final two players from each pod being awarded a booster pack. The pods from the first game were broken up between the two "winners" and "losers" with each bracket moving over to form the two pods for the second game.

In both games, dredging brought me to a position where I could wipe players out with Jarad's sacrifice ability. I was just shy of enough mana to finish off my friend, so I only took second in that one.

Might as well open these prize packs, let's see...

My rares are Archon of the Wild Rose, Redcap Gutter-Dweller, and Court of Embereth.
