Kirk vs Picard

Kirk's Star Trek was about situations... Meaning they go to a planet, and they find somethin' spacey and cool. Picard's Star Trek was all about people and relationships... AND cool spacey ****. Picard didn't have to go to a new planet every other episode.

When Picard royally screwed up his ship, star fleet gave him a better one. When Kirk did it, they found a copy of the ship in a closet somewhere and gave it to him.

Honestly, I prefer Picard. Even though both actors have disolved into cheesy roles (Seriously, look at them now...Hotel Commercials and Roles in Mel Brooks Films?)

As for the rest of the crew, I think it would have been interesting to see Picard make Sulu cry! The ideal ST crew would be Picard, Spock, Worf, Data, Beverly Crusher, Bones, Scotty, and Wesley. Now wouldn't that be an interesting makeup? (yes I know, 2 Medical Officers....who cares...?)

Beverly: "Just take a look at this sub micoid organism living inside of this dead crewman's body."

Bones: "Back in my day, we didn't cut open our crewmen after they died from natural causes."

but seriously... TNG keeps churnin' out new movies... And if you read the books you'll known that Mr. Riker got himself a cooshy new attack ship... okay, so it's no big deal if your not a trek fan.

Explanation: Starfleet didn't believe in "attack" ships before Deep Space Nine's Defiant, and then they came up with that split apart ship from Voyager (yeah, it was an aliens ship, but it's now a fed design for some reason).

There is another one scheduled for release Christmas 2008...I'm not clear on which crew, though.

I really wasn't a fan of that Scott Bakula or his version of Enterprise. It seemed like a rehash of TNG mixed with the original saga to create... well... crap. Lets have some big fight against transdimentional, time hopping aliens... oh, and throw in some scoop about how in the future we have these dorks who pop through time trying to clean up the messes caused by these 'tards while screwing it up even further by not being able to keep themselves out of the thick of it.

They could have at least tried somethin' weird and new like with the twenty four mixed screen with a time agent shown in one pane doing things while the crew is totally oblivious to it as something that just happened by accident or something. But no, Scotty gets to talk to some guy who can't stay dead...

According to IMDB, it "Follows Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country", which leads me to believe that they are probably bringing in Kirk, Spock, Sulu, and anyone else that might still be alive. I wouldn't be surprised, however, given the ages, if they use the original players as supporting cast / advisors, and get a new crew for the Enterprise.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't cameo any of the original enterprise crew. Remember: Scotty is "trapped in a transporter" and Kirk is stuck in "heaven."

Wait, Star Trek VI is before the one where the TNG crew meets with Kirk in his "Heaven". So the story would pick up from there not from the TNG movies. Well,, that's what I'm thinking...

Umm... dunno where it says that in the IMDB... but Undiscovered Country is where they pickup Spock's crazy brother and they head for the center of the universe. Generations (next one after that) is where they show Mr. Kirk gettin' sucked into that wave thing.

I haven't the slightest clue where you're getting the "follows Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" quote, but according to the 'News Articles' link on the page, it's a pre-television Star Trek, with the original characters in the academy.

Follow this link and scroll down to "fun stuff".

But that other IMDB link seems to have a lot more information and contradicts, so I'm not sure. I know there has been talk of a new TV series that would track Kirk's academy days, but that is the first I've heard that the movie would be that.

Personal opinion - if you are going to do Star Trek and you are going to get someone else to do roles that have already been made famous, don't get actors who are already very well known. Adrian Brody is probably okay for Spock. He's done quite a bit, but doesn't really stick out. Matt Damon and Gary Sinise, however, are horrible choices, IMO. They are way too well known for other roles and would just conflict with what we already know of Kirk and McCoy.
