Extended decks?

I know this isn't casual, but I may play in an Extended tourney ext weekend and was wondering if the tourney players (and anyone else) could recommend a deck to play. Or at least a deck type.
I should be able to get most of the cards that are legal.
This would be my first extended tourney and my first tourney in many years.

Please help.
Thanks everyone.

I'm not incredibly up on Extended, but I might be able to help. What kind of decks did you have in mind? I mean, I'm a huge fan of Tendrils of Agony, if my sig didn't make that clear enough. Here's a winning Tendrils build from Extended this month...

4 Desperate Ritual
2 Electrolyze
4 Manamorphose
4 Peer Through Depths
4 Remand
4 Seething Song
4 Mind's Desire
4 Ponder
4 Rite of Flame
2 Sleight of Hand
2 Tendrils of Agony
4 Lotus Bloom
1 Cascade Bluffs
4 Dreadship Reef
2 Flooded Strand
4 Island
2 Polluted Delta
1 Shivan Reef
4 Steam Vents
Sideboard:
2 Ad Nauseam
2 Brain Freeze
2 Echoing Truth
3 Gigadrowse
2 Pact of Negation
1 Gaea's Blessing
3 Shattering Spree

Second place in that tournament went to a Naya deck...

2 Figure of Destiny
4 Keldon Marauders
4 Kird Ape
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Wild Nacatl
4 Incinerate
4 Lightning Helix
2 Path to Exile
4 Rift Bolt
3 Sulfuric Vortex
4 Bloodstained Mire
1 Forest
3 Mountain
2 Sacred Foundry
2 Stomping Ground
1 Temple Garden
4 Windswept Heath
4 Wooded Foothills
Sideboard:
2 Duergar Hedge-Mage
3 Ethersworn Canonist
2 Gaddock Teeg
3 Kitchen Finks
2 Ancient Grudge
1 Path to Exile
2 Pyrostatic Pillar

The rest of the T8, except for fourth place, which went to a Reveillark deck, was all faerie decks. Faeries seem to be really strong in Extended right now. Here's the one that got third place...

4 Spellstutter Sprite
4 Tarmogoyf
3 Vendilion Clique
2 Venser, Shaper Savant
2 Cryptic Command
4 Mana Leak
2 Path to Exile
4 Spell Snare
4 Ancestral Vision
3 Engineered Explosives
2 Umezawa's Jitte
2 Vedalken Shackles
2 Breeding Pool
3 Flooded Strand
1 Hallowed Fountain
6 Island
1 Minamo, School at Water's Edge
4 Mutavault
1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
4 Polluted Delta
2 Riptide Laboratory
Sideboard:
2 Kataki, War's Wage
2 Sower of Temptation
1 Path to Exile
2 Stifle
2 Trickbind
1 Future Sight
2 Threads of Disloyalty
1 Engineered Explosives
2 Relic of Progenitus

So what do you think?

Actually, that last list is Next level blue due to the Tarmofatties ;)

If you go and play indeed, you should realize that the metagame doesn't have a "best" deck. Sure, fae is played quite a bit in the States, but it can definitely be beaten. The deck you will want to play (if card availability isn't an issue) will greatly depend on what metagame you expect, and what kind of deck you like to play.

Desire combo is a strong deck, but if there's a lot of faeries in the room, you will lose games to stifle and trickbind. If you feel confident you can get those gigadrowses, by all means play it. If there is more aggro in the metagame, I think Swanscombo will be a better choice.

creature [5]
2 Simian Spirit Guide
3 Swans of Bryn Argoll

instant [12]
4 Chain of Plasma
1 Lightning Storm
4 Muddle the Mixture
3 Pact of Negation

sorcery [12]
3 Firespout
4 Glittering Wish
4 Ponder
1 Pyroclasm

artifact [11]
3 Chrome Mox
4 Lotus Bloom
4 Pentad Prism

land [20]
1 Breeding Pool
4 City of Brass
4 Flooded Strand
3 Gemstone Mine
1 Hallowed Fountain
1 Island
3 Reflecting Pool
1 Sacred Foundry
1 Steam Vents
1 Temple Garden
60 cards

Sideboard:
1 Dimir Infiltrator
1 Swans of Bryn Argoll
2 Vendilion Clique
2 Vexing Shusher
1 Fracturing Gust
1 Guttural Response
1 Hide / Seek
1 Pact of Negation
1 Firespout
3 Leyline of Singularity
1 Wheel of Sun and Moon
15 cards

5 color zoo is strong, but in the current metagame naya burn/zoo is better positioned, since it's faeries matchup is better. Just remember that any list without 4 Volcanic Fallout main is wrong here ;)

creature [22]
3 Figure of Destiny
4 Keldon Marauders
4 Kird Ape
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Wild Nacatl
3 Woolly Thoctar

instant [14]

4 Bloodstained Mire
1 Forest
3 Sacred Foundry
2 Snow-Covered Mountain
3 Stomping Ground

4 Wooded Foothills
60 cards

Sideboard:
3 Jötun Grunt
2 Ancient Grudge
3 Krosan Grip
4 Circle of Protection: Red
3 Rule of Law
15 cards

Grunts are great against my favorite deck: Aggro/Loam.

Creatures
4 Kitchen Finks
4 Tarmogoyf

Instants
4 Darkblast
3 Putrefy
2 Slaughter Pact

Legendary Artifacts
3 Umezawa's Jitte

Sorceries
4 Life From The Loam

3 Windswept Heath

Sideboard:
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Pithing Needle
2 Ravenous Baloth
3 Choke
2 Seal Of Primordium
3 Extirpate
3 Damnation

I wouldn't recommend funky decks like bant/aggro, martyr or even Tezzerator (unless you're secretly named Kenny Oberg, in which case you won't need my advice ;))

Faeries might be good, but requires extensive playtesting, so if you have enough time on your hands and a likeminded person at hand, I'd go with something that can be goldfished like combo (desire is easier to goldfish than swans, as this interacts more) or zoo/loam.

Good luck with the tournament, let us know how you did (and I can tell you from experience, don't be disappointed when things go wrong. In extended it's all pretty random, I've gone 3-1 for the top 4, but also 0-3 drop with the same deck, same metagame..) :)

Maybe it's a regional thing? I mean, there are three other decks in the T8 for this tournament that use the same creatures and they're all labeled UGW Faeries.

Swans are awesome. If I were to play in Extended right now, I'd be sorely tempted to play this deck. Alas, my love for storm is too great, and I'd be compelled to play TEPS.

Nah, I thought it was just a matter of definitions. Next Level Blue and Faeries are very similar, the only difference is the Tarmogoyf in the list :)

So half the people in the T8 gave their decks the wrong name?

Basically, yes, although I deem it more likely that the person who posted the lists online made the mistake..

I have an extended elves combo deck. It's really funny, and probably the cheapest deck (because # of goyfs = 0) to build. That is, as long as you can borrow Thoughtseizes and Jittes for the sideboard. It's also easier than Tendrils. And it has no counterspells, so you don't really have to think. I don't like to think, so if I could be arsed to invest in fake duals I'd definately build that zoo deck. I love Zoo.
