It's a performance issue -- it's much faster to only calculate those links when necessary than on every thread view.

Can you clarify what's wrong with the calender? I've never used it so I don't know what you're referring to.

Well it used to list the birthdates for the month so you could see them all.But I can see now the birthdays show for that day under your private messages,so it is a moot point.

I'm seeing birthdays on the calendar no problem, they're just in the "condensed" version.
