**Perhaps I am to blame for the pace... I am sort of a reluctant leader - mostly because I hate to make decisions for other players... but on the other hand I get impatient and want to try to push the story at times - much like Si' Nat and Karnage... I will be more forceful as a leader to progress the story, but please as other players participate as much as possible... I think part of the problem is waiting for something to react to... so I will take charge - but whenever something happens requiring more active participation I am not going to play for anyone but myself...**

Patrick decides it is time to leave for one final rest - recovering all HP losses and spells before proceeding to the lower level... The plan is to head back to town the most direct route, then return here and rest a turn before going downstairs - let us know if and when we run into any wandering events... ((as a sort of fast forward... It would be also be a nice gesture if you allowed us to level, though I know it is early... you could delay our getting to third level as the offset, healing would be nice though.))

*Well, this isn't an RP-based campaign really, so I don't think we needa act out everything we do in each room... this is more of a dungeon-crawler campaign (like a game of Hero Quest) I'm all for having one person move us around and the rest of us acting out what we do in battle and our decisions. And since we don't have a trap finder... I guess Karnage is going to get the brunt of the trap damage for the group.*

** Well, I guess I expected you guys to talk more and share what you've individually learned in each room - that's why I PM most of the results instead of sharing publicly as if everyone has done the action - except for actions where everyone can see the results. And I guess I did expect a bit of role-play in between...

You do have a trap finder - it's everyone in the party. Although Cugel's chances grow as he gains in levels, right now, everyone has a 1 in 6 chance of finding traps except Rondo who gets 2 in 6.

Like I said, the game moves on whenever BB or train is on to move things forward, but if they're not on, I thought some others would pick up the slack... I don't think everyone else would mind too much if someone else besides the two above made the decision to go somewhere.

You're not going to level yet but you will before you're "due"... if you ever get to the spot where I want you to level. But Bertrem's only going to get 1 Cure Light Wounds spell IF he picks it, which only cures 1d6+1 points of damage...

It takes 6.5 turns to move on back to the entrance and out of the castle and it goes uneventfully. You rest and heal up and regain your spells. Coming back in to the same point is equally ineventful... either you're incredibly lucky or things have quieted down :) You head on down the stairs and come to the door at the bottom of the stairs in the western wall. Torchlight reveals the corridor to continue south for at least another 30 feet.

Cugel whispers "I suppose we should continue our descent"

** There is actually no further "descent"; you're at the bottom of the stairs

I see. My monitor at home wasn't showing enough difference on the map between the corridor and the stairs (or maybe I just didn't notice it, I forget if I was wearing my glasses...) but it looks quite clear from the computer I'm on now. Okay, forget the descent thing then. I'm changing my mind and Cugel's changing his...

*Checks door for traps. After he's done, he'll ask the others if they want to open it or continue the totally non-descending travel down, er, through the corridor.*

"I say we go through the door. I feel much better now that we're all healed up and have my spell back."

**on a side note... when did you become Lt. Tawny Madison Spidey? :D "Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it, okay?" **

Well, I still say we should not leave any unsearched area behind....therefore, we should at least try to open the door, just to make sure nothin nasty sneaks up behind us....

** What are you talking about BB? Your reference escapes me...

Cugel bravely opens the door and...

You see a 30' east-west by 20' north-south room. There are ten statues of what appears to be guardsmen standing at attention (at least, they're wearing the same uniform as the guy you killed in the other room). On the floor in front of them is the body of another guardman who's NOT a statue. Along the walls are empty racks which look as if they might have once held weapons.

Whoa, wait a minute.....Statues wearing clothing, this may sound wierd, but maybe they are not exactly "statues".....

I have a bad feeling about this...

**Spidey - I was referencing Sigurney Weaver's character in Galaxy quest, whose only job was to repeat what the computer said, because it seemed like that's what your previous 2 posts were... repeats of what the character said they did... No biggie... **

** Ah, I've seen portions of that movie when it came on cable, so I know what you're talking about. Yeah, I've been doing that before, though I guess not as overtly. Like I said above, I was trying to encourage you guys to role-play and post more amongst yourselves, so I'm trying to just transmit information that the whole party sees. If it's something a particular character sees, then I PM him the info and let him decide whether and how to share the info (which so far seems to be repeating what I said to them). Hence, I PMed Oversoul the results of his character's actions, but since no one was standing next to him and following what he did, I just publicly posted what the party saw him do (and also it's a bit of validation that I read his post and acted on it :) )

Cugel steps up to the statues and tentatively examines them. Nothing seems to happen during his examination period.

"As I expected, the detail on these statues is enough to make one suspect that the sculptor cheated. I just hope we are not fated to become statues."

Ok, so do you think it is statues designed to become animated, or people who have become statues?

Either way, I don't like it!

With the dead body in the middle, I strongly suspect these come to life - what is odd to me though is he wears the same uniform as the statues... which means they are attacking their own...

"That or, he happened to get slaughtered before turning into stone. I wonder if we can tell what kind of wounds he acquired?"

Starts looking at the body in detail to determine cause of death, and weapon used...
