Rondo walks back into the room and closes the door behind him. "Hush now," he says in a harsh whisper, "an' git ready - I hear someone coming!" Then he goes back to the door and waits, axe in hand, to meet the new threat, listening carefully to the sounds on the other side of the door.

(Got the same info as everyone else with the papers... my only question is about how many people are on the duty rosters... to get some idea of numbers for encounters)
Patrick stands back with a dagger ready for throwing, torch aloft for ample vision...

Draws his mace, checks to make sure his holy symbol is in plain view, and takes a flanking stance on the other side of the door (unless it opens inward...than will stand just outside of its opening arc, prepared to jump into the fray at the first opportunity.
(Patrick - you will need to spend some more time collecting all of the papers and cross-checking to get an accurate account - from the ones you looked at, you guess at least a dozen.
Bertrem - the door opens towards you)
The door swings open and coming up a flight of stairs are three of the same robed creatures you've met before in two previous encounters. They stare at you in surprise but notice Bertrem's holy symbol and their eyes start to narrow...

Round 1
In an explosion of movement, the party attacks.
Karnage strikes out swiftly but his sword clangs off his opponent's robe.
Bertrem lashes out with his mace and crushes his opponent's skull. He goes down, splattering blood and brains.
Si'Nat's arrow takes a second one right in the upper chest, near the shoulder. He staggers back but remains standing.
Patrick's dagger takes the third in the eye.
Rondo's blow and Cugel's arrow misses the remaining, wounded creature.
Round 2
The creature turns and starts to run back down the stairs. You guys get a "free" attack (+2 to hit rolls).
Karnage misses horribly, but Bertrem steps up again and smashes his mace into the back of the creature's head. Its momentum carries him down the stairs, tumbling and bumping until it reaches the bottom, unmoving.
(I gotta say, I rolled incredibly for you guys this time. Except for the misses, everything was 15 & above, which with the bonuses each gets for attacking (depending on who it was), got you guys hits...)

(Well - I tried setting up my stats that way - but the bow didn't seem to do so much against them earlier on in the adventure... I guess it all depends on the position during combat... )

Wipes the brains and gore from his mace, whispering a prayer up to his diety, thanking him for allowing just revenge!
