It takes you two turns to reach the door to the east. Torchlight reveals another set of stairs that continue down south for 20' and a door at the bottom of the stairs in the west wall.
(I thought we had mentioned earlier on that we would always be "ready" when traveling... just wanted to check because it makes things a little "faster"...)

You open the door and see a rectangular room 40' N-S and 20' E-W; the door you opened is in the lower west wall. There are five bunk beds in the room. At the foot of each bed are two footlockers. On the east wall, near one of the beds, you can see some writing, but it's too small to make out from the doorway.
(Moves in, ready with the bow... after making sure the area is secure, stays the bow and begins working through the footlockers, opening them with one of the short swords from the side...)
As Bertrem goes over to the writing and Si'Nat and Rondo start checking the footlockers and room, a man in a palace guard uniform bursts into the room and throws a dagger at Devin (the closest to the door) which sinks right into his eye. Devin goes down without a grunt. The man screams "You'll never get my treasure! Thieves! Everywhere I look, thieves are trying to steal my treasure! You all must die! I'll never let you steal my treasure!"
(I actually have the Companion rules which allow wrestling and non-weapon combat, but I'll have to bring it in if you guys want to subdue opponents that way If you need details, let me know)
Cugel's arrow sinks into his leg but he doesn't seem to notice it. However, he IS affected by Si'Nat's sleep spell - a moment later he topples over and is snoring like a baby.
