computer tech question

Here's a question that's been bugging me.

1. About 6 months ago I had to install a new hard drive. I had an old computer so I had to partition it into 4 sections. Now since this is new you'd figure that there'd be less "Fatal Errors" and lock-ups and The Blue Screen of Death occurrances, right? Well, I thought so too :) but I'm still getting them. And I have less stuff on it now than I did with the old one (I didn't re-install all of my games and stuff).

So does anyone have an idea or sites I can look at to keep these occurrances to a minimum? It's Windows 98 with all of the critical upgrades from Microsoft.

Thanks.

Do you have any other programs running all the time or at least most of the time besides windows. There could be a compatability problem. Windows hates some programs for some reason. (gee, I wonder why...)

Well, I'm at work so I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I have Scheduler. I honestly have no idea about others, I'll see if I can check when I get home.

I get BSODs regularly here. It's inherent if you run Windoze. Windows 98 is MS's most unstable operating system yet.

There are several things you can do, ranging from overlaying the Win95 kernel over Win98's to reformatting your whole computer. :)

There's a software conflict running somewhere - you might want to try removing programs from Start->Programs->Startup.

Then I suggest doing Start->Run->type in: msconfig .
Click on win.ini and expand the [windows] page. Uncheck the "load" and "run" lines.
Then click on the "Startup" tab and uncheck anything you want to remove.

I'll try that.

While looking around on my computer, I noticed 'conflicts' with some of the IRQ interrupts. Would that also cause this stuff if that's not what you just said?

Does anybody know if/where I can get a BSOD screensaver?

I tried to create one once, but it didn't work.

LOL.

I can make an image sometime to do it. If (when) I do, I'll post it.

You can make screen savers in vB - but I forget how :(
