It still cracks me up that they include rarity symbols in a set with preconstructed decks that have exactly one of each card in them besides basic lands.
Mark Rosewater got the question on his blog and essentially said that the expansion symbol gets the rarity that the card would hypothetically have if it were to appear in a booster. This is immensely silly.
