Casual Decks on the Dojo?!?

I just was on the dojo and saw that it had been updated again. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the featured article was about decks they just threw together to play against each other.

Any of you doubting that the Casual Players Alliance has had an effect on the world of internet magic now have proof of our influence. The untouchable professionals have started to post casual-type material.

Of course, Hahn still put a Bargain in his deck but oh well ...

A friend of mine proudly said to me this morning: "Hey, the Dojo printed my decks!" After a short series of questions as to where and HOW he got the decks printed, I realized what, exactly, that article was. (At first, it looked like a DTB list, which, of course, confused the HELL out of me... :) ) And my friend was right. Two of those decks (the first two) were nearly identical to two he'd designed.

Just so it becomes obvious to those who haven't noticed, I have not point. Just a neat story. :)

"YOUR decks are DTB?????"

Umm, who knows if I'm right or anything, but I think Charles "Tuna" Hwa is running things on the Dojo now, not Hahn (and Flores left), at least not directly. Those "Dojo staff" articles have a very different feel and flavor to them than when Hahn and Flores were writing.

Also, not to rain on anyone's parade, but I'm not sure how you can make the connection that the CPA influenced the Dojo by just extrapolating? intepreting? those couple articles. Maybe it's taking awhile for people to notice the Dojo is back up and get the pros to send in submissions. Maybe the old crop of pros bailed out during the Dojo downtime and Hwa's scrambling to get new ones. They still post tourney reports.

Here's a question: Why aren't people posting decks in the CPA section? The Dojo is down for nearly a month yet the moment it springs up, people have submitted and have got their casual issues/decks posted. The CPA has been up all the time and the only recent updates are Dune's decks. As BDP said, "Why is that?" I would say that's more indicative of CPA's non-influence than influence.

Boy, I'm just a pisser today, ain't I? :)

The problem is that, although Ed and I monitor the submissions daily, people just don't write their ideas on the front page. People get more immediate and satisfactory responses in our decks section which is where 95% of everything ends up. I'd love to see more decklists, but people just won't write them up and send them in.

Hi,

I Would post decks on the front page, but alas, I've never come up with anything worthy. Not to mention my poor writing skills.

I think that If there is a lot of intrest in your deck, you should post it (come on don't be shy). For example: Abusing Task Force, there was a lot of intrest in that deck.

Exactly, so how do we get people to put their original and creative decklists up on the front page?

I've been thinking about this for a while, and since we just switched BB systems, I haven't done anything about it.

Anyway, I've been temporarily calling it "the best of the boards" or "today's best" (blatent SportsCenter rip). Anyway, adding a rating system like the Dojo has/had, but instead of on articles, have it on threads. Then write some other script to allow someone to approve/unapprove the "best" and add them to a list on the front page...

Hmm.. It's sounding more like a "featured threads" type thing now.

I've talked to the dojo editor a couple of times through email, yes he actually responds! He seems to be really dedicated to bringing the dojo to a higher standard and making a place where everyone is welcome, casual and non casual. FYI, he says that the message boards should be up within 1-2 weeks, but he didn't make any promises, since he really doesn't know that much about the system.

Dune: Yeah, I realized after writing my reply that the deck forum pretty much takes the place of people submitting stuff to the front page. I don't know a good way to get people to do it... most people on the forum seem to want help with their decks and the front page isn't a great place for that.

I guess the forum would be the place for help and the front would be the place for "proven" decks, or those that people feel pretty comfortable with and only need minor personal tweaks.

I wouldn't mind posting some of my more interesting decks on the front page, except that I don't know how.

Istanbul, go out to the front, click on Casual Articles and then click on the link that says something about (I think this is it): To submit an article, click here. It's that easy. And then give Mike and I a day or two to edit it and then we'll post it.
