I propose a series of block games! I have the blocks and the banned cards as follows:

The sets of each block:

Alara Block (Shards of Alara, Conflux, (Alara Reborn, once released)
Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Block (Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide)
Time Spiral Block (Time Spiral, Planar Chaos, Future Sight)
Ravnica Block (Ravnica: City of Guilds, Guildpact, Dissension)
Kamigawa Block (Champions, Betrayers and Saviors of Kamigawa)
Mirrodin Block (Mirrodin, Darksteel, Fifth Dawn)
Onslaught Block (Onslaught, Legions, Scourge)
Odyssey Block (Odyssey, Torment, Judgement)
Invasion Block (Invasion, Planeshift, Apocalypse)
Masques Block (Mercadian Masques, Nemesis, Propecy)
Urza Block (Urza's Saga, Urza's Legacy, and Urza's Destiny)
Rath Cycle Block (Tempest, Stronghold, and Exodus)
Mirage Block (Mirage, Visions, and Weatherlight)
Ice Age Block (Ice Age, Alliances, and Coldsnap)

Banned cards in Block:
The following cards are banned in Mirrodin Block tournaments:

* AEther Vial
* Ancient Den
* Arcbound Ravager
* Darksteel Citadel
* Disciple of the Vault
* Great Furnace
* Seat of the Synod
* Tree of Tales
* Vault of Whispers
* Skullclamp

In Onslaught Block, Odyssey Block and Invasion block there are no banned cards.

The following cards are banned in Masques Block tournaments:
- Lin Sivvi Deviant Hero
- Rishadan Port

The following cards are banned in Urza Block tournaments:
- Gaea's Cradle
- Memory Jar
- Serra's Sanctum
- Time Spiral
- Tolarian Academy
- Voltaic Key
- Windfall

The following card is banned in Rath Cycle Block tournaments:
- Cursed Scroll

The following card is banned in Mirage Block tournaments:
- Squandered Resources

The following cards are banned in Ice Age Block tournaments:
- Amulet of Quoz
- Thawing Glaciers
- Zuran Orb


And while I disagree with artifact lands and Squandered Resources being banned, I wont complain if they are. WHAT SAY YOU FORUM?

I know we've already got tribal games, that draft league thingy, and now ByoS, but we should totally do this. Who wants in? We could do it in "seasons" or whatever with Swiss-style tournaments and/or multiplayer games. Where should we start? We could begin at the beginning or we could do a random block or whatever.

Right now, all the games I have going on are about to swamp me as it is. Tribal, Sports league, and BYOS. I cannot handle yet another game at this time.

It's a great idea... but I'm just not that into it... Like DF, I'm swamped as it is... Good Luck and have fun!

It's not for me... I guess I'm too casual to play tournament magic even on a casual site... I'm competetive enough to want to win, but lazy enough to not really look at possibilities, so when I get rolled by everyone else and their mad skillz... it's just not so much fun for me. I thought the BooS would be easier than Singleton - but I'm quickly seeing better versions of my deck which I anticipate to lose to.

You might want to try this as a Top Deck format - you kids w/ the mad skillz would probably do well with it.

Correct. The DCI maintains banned lists for all block constructed formats. I don't know that anyone else uses them for anything, but they are official.

I think they reserve the right to run block tourney's on MTG Online... which is probably why they keep the lists.

So right now we've got maybe four people? Forget Swiss-style then.

We could vote on which block to do or we could choose one at random or go in chronological order or whatever.

I'll play, although I'm not sure how good I'll be :)

Why not just go in order from the beginning? That way, we know which block is next and it'll give time for Alara Reborn to be worked out "in the real world" and see if cards need to be banned, etc.

Sounds good. So we're doing Ice Age block (Ice Age, Alliances, Coldsnap) with Oversoul, Spiderman, Ransac, Mooseman, and myself so far. Should we give the others a couple of days to decide? Or just let them in the next block?

Give another day or so. I need time to build a deck anyway (although knowing whether this is an MP game would help)

We could do both. I mean, with different decks, of course. First a multiplayer game and then singles (maybe round robin since the group is pretty small).
