Weird Al; A question

On his newest CD, "Running With Scissors" track six is a song entitled "Germs."

Is this one of Weird Al's own songs, or is it a parody? If the latter, then what song is it a parody of?

I love the song...anyway, thanks!

PS: New profile:)

According to the lyric sheet, it's his own...but...I heard a song on the radio that sounded exactly the same, and somewhere I've got a MIDI of it...

Weird al makes two different kinds of parodies. One kind is a song parody. The other kind is a style parody. I think that Germs is a style parody. Style parodies are songs that weird al makes that are of a style that some band has. An example of a style parody is "Dare to be stupid".

Acually, I remember hearing a song once (back in the 80's) that had the exact same music as "Dare to be Stupid", so that is a parody of a song (albeit an obscure one)

NO, emperor, i know for a fact that "Dare to be stupid" is a style parody. It even said in his biography.

Like "Twister"... which is obviously rap, but seems tailored towards imitating the Beastie Boys specifically... :)

I never know which songs of Weird Al's are song paradies or style, at least concerning the non-obvious songs. There was one on his first album that I just thought was his own (or I guess style) but then I heard the 70's song it was based off of just recently (this is like 10 years after I've been listening to the first album). I can't remember the name, but I was like "ooooohhhh". ;)

DTBS is a style parody of devo, and Germs is a style parody of some song by NIN

first of all, running with scissors is an awesome album.

next, germs sounds a lot like a song by nine inch nails. i dont remember what it is called, but the chorus goes like this:

i wanna f*** you like an animal
i wanna feel you from the inside
i wanna f*** you like an animal
and i cant remember the rest of the words from the chorus, but that's how it starts

I know what y'all are talking about, and Germs is a style parody of "Closer". It's not exactly the same, but there are pieces that are quite similar. If you listen to the fadeouts at the end of each of the songs, they sound very much alike, tho not identical.

Visit http://www.alsongs.com for information on most of Al's songs (still missing one or two old unreleased songs), and learn once and for all which songs are parodies and which aren't. :)

The only bad thing about alsongs.com is the fact that you can ONLY search by lyrics, not song specifics that are listed above them, like "unrelesed." Well, besides the fact they use "Total Devo" for Iocko Homo instead of Q: Are we not men? A: We are DEVO!

Other style parodies are "Everything you know is Wrong," a stle parody of They Might Be Giants and that awful "Truck Driving song" which is the worst song by al I've heard... And don't forget "Waffle King," which I think is suppose to be elton-jon like...

Of course, the NIN and DEVO parodies have been mentioned...

ARE WE NOT PIMPS?
WE ARE DEVO!!
God made man, but he used a monkey to do it. Apes in the plan, and we're all here to proove it! I can walk like an ape, talk like an ape-- do what monkeys do! God made man, but a monkey supplied the glue!
ARE WE NOT MEN?
WE ARE DEVO!
ARE WE NOT MEN?
D-E-V-O!
(repete twelve times "Are we not men... we are devo)
-Jocko Homo, by Devo

orgg, that's the second time we've received the complaint about not being able to search specifically for unreleased.. I'll see if that feature can make it into the next update.

another newly-found stle parody: Trigger Happy parodies the Beach Boys' style of "surf music"
