A Cycle of Cards
By Robert Pittman
I'd like to talk about the cycle of card ideas, posted in the Casualties of War thread. To me its a very interesting topic I really like the cycle of cards idea. Half way threw the CPA apprentice thread I posted a cycle of creatures called carriers. They didn't recieve much attention and I had forgotten about them. Then CT posted the Foundation of Rancor idea and got me to thinking about how much fun it would be to have a cycle of Common, Uncommon, and Rare CPA card in each of the five colors.

I don't know if my ideas are that good or not but I've been working on the far mention cards. Below is my tenative card list. Please look them over and let me know what you think. I'm open to all comments and suggestions. Feel free to point out any broken or crappy ideas.

The first group are the carriers. They are you basic 1/1 creature with a comes into play effect. I've tried to word them so they couldn't be abused.

Plague Carrier
Common
B
Creature-Carrier
1/1
When Plague Carrier comes into play, if you played it from your hand, put a -1-1 counter on target creature

Scroll Carrier
Common
U
Creature-Carier
When Scroll Carrier comes into play, if you played it from your hand, draw a card.

Ley Carrier
Common
G
Creature-Carrier
When Ley Carrier comes into play, if you played it from your hand, put a +1+1 counter on target creature.

Torch Carrier
Common
R
Creature-Carrier
When Torch Carrier comes into play, if you played it from your hand, do 1 damage to any target.

Soul Carrier
Common
W
Creature-Carrier
When Soul Carrier comes into play, if you played it from your hand, gain 1 life.

The second group are the Seer. They are a group of wizard like creatures with a very powerful spell like effect built into them. Its a conditional effect but has the potential to be game altering.

Malfurgan Visionary
Uncommon
3B
Creature-Seer
0/3
1,Tap, Name a card: Target opponent chooses a card at random from your hand. If he or she chooses the named card, you may remove up to two cards in that player's graveyard from the game.

Frizan Visionary
Uncommon
3U
Creature-Seer
0/3
1,Tap, Name a card: Target opponent chooses a card at random from your hand. If he or she chooses the named card, you may draw up to two cards.

Bhodivan Visionary
Uncommon
3G
Creature-Seer
0/3
1,Tap, Name a card: Target opponent chooses a card at random from your hand. If he or she chooses the named card, target creature gets a +2+2 and gains trample until end of turn.

Durdan Visionary
Uncommon
3R
Creature-Seer
0/3
1,Tap, Name a card: Target opponent chooses a card at random from your hand. If he or she chooses the named card, you may deal two damage to any target.

Mandari Visionary
Uncommon
3W
Creature-Seer
0/3
1,Tap, Name a card: Target opponent chooses a card at random from your hand. If he or she chooses the named card, target player gains two life.

The last group are the recurring enchantments. These are kind of hard to figue out because I believe with the exception of Rancor, Brilliant Halo and maybe Despondency the rest of the Perpetual enchantments aren't really that good(IMO). Not only that blue and red already have enchantments that are similiar to Launch and Fiery Mantle. Blue Levitation and Red Ghitu War Cry. They don't come back of course but they can effect all of your creatures.

I'm not sure what the five Foundation cards text should be but here's what I've come up with. We already have good suggestions for Rancor and Brilliant Halo so I haven't messed with them much but they are included on my list.

Foundation of (?)despondency
Rare
BBB
Legendary Enchantment
All creatures you do not control get a -2/-0. When ~this~ is put into the graveyard from play, you may sacrifice a creature. If you do, return ~this~ to your hand.

Foundation of (?)apathy
Rare
UUU
Legendary Enchantment
Creatures do not untap. At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player may discard a card at random to untap all of his/her creatures. When ~this~ is put into the graveyard from play, you may untap all of opponents creatures. If you do, return ~this~ to your hand.

Foundation of (?)rancor
Rare
GGG
Legendary Enchantment
All creatures you control gain +2/+0 and trample. When ~this~ is put into a graveyard from play, you may pay G. If you do, return this to your hand.

Foundation of (?)rain
Rare
RRR
Legendary Enchantment
Each creatures you control gains, if this creature deals combat damage to a player destroy target non-basic land. When ~this~ is put into the graveyard from play, you may sacrifice a non-basic land. If you do, return ~this~ to your hand.

Foundation of (?)holiness
Enchantment
WWW
All creatures you control gain +1/+2. When ~this~ is put into your graveyard from play, you may pay W. If you do, return ~this~ to your hand.

Just for fun I've included this five color land.

Utopia
Legendary Land
Tap, choose one:
add B to your mana pool, remove a card in your hand from the game.
add U to your mana pool, target opponent may draw a card.
add G to your mana pool, put a +1+1 counter on opponents creature.
add R to your mana pool, sacfifice a land.
add W to your mana pool, loose one life.
